Allow Your Light to Shine

Golden Lights

What do you want for your life? What prevents you from seeking and reaching your goals? Hopefully, you recognize that the biggest culprit is yourself. Yes. You. Obviously, life happens and things can get in the way which may impede our progress. However, progress, no matter how small, moves you closer to your end goal. Oftentimes, we become our own biggest offenders due to internal hang-ups and thus creating our own personal roadblocks and setbacks.

Here are three potential major roadblocks that you may encounter at any point in your journey and they are known to show up repeatedly.

Fear. This is normal and common and most experience it in some variation. It can range from minimal to high anxiety levels. The key is to work through it anyway. You can defeat fear and all you really need to gleam from it is what does not and what does work. This is your exploratory phase.

Self-Doubt. This offender is a pain in the butt. Not only does the voice and sentiments of others seep in, but you are joining the crowd in berating your own abilities. Also, in this phase you are comparing your life to others instead of focusing and defining things on your terms. What does success look like to you? What does a win look like to you? Do you base these barometers on the rules that you set for yourself.

Procrastination. What do you keeping putting off? Why? That dust bunny can stay in the corner; you really don’t need to take care of it when your focus in the moment is to actively work towards a goal. Household chores, social media, and television are for many the main distractors or deflectors. When tackling a task and you find yourself going off course, ask yourself what is more important. Or, why are you avoiding the task? Be honest with yourself when giving a response.

This list can probably go on and on, but this is just a starting point to get you to not only think, but gear up for action. Get ready to share your gifts with the world. They were given to you for just that purpose not to contain it within yourself due to fear, self-doubt, and procrastination. Let this stuff go and allow your light to shine. There are others out here who need and want your gifts.

“You playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so others won’t feel insecure around you. As you let your own light shine, you indirectly give others permission to do the same.” ~ Marianne Williamson

Create Your Ultimate Love Story

love-selfcare-createherstock-4Self-love is the “regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.” Unfortunately, when we hear the word love we rarely think of self. There is too much emphasis on being selfless and the externalizations of love. Let’s be honest; we are programmed to seek and nurture love outside of ourselves with romantic comedies subliminally convincing us we need someone to complete us. The truth is true love begins with the love songs and stories that we create within ourselves. In my observations, the most bitter, cruel, and ugly acting people are those who lack a love of self. Unfortunately, their acts and behaviors are at the consequences of others – an attempt to transfer their ills to another. This was my first-hand experience in an abusive marriage. My epiphany came with the realization that this individual could not love me because he did not even love himself. There also came a period of reflection in how I was not exhibiting self-love in subjecting myself to treatment that was not a reflection of love.

Instead of focusing on the external ways in which we may or may not receive love let us instead turn our attention to enjoying ourselves, first and foremost. Let us stop looking for extrinsic love and learn to master intrinsic love. When one practices self-love it opens up space which allows us to be receptive to external love. Even greater, you attract the right kind of people into your life because in essence, your aura changes. You function from a space of clarity in what you want in your life along with what you are willing and unwilling to accept.

Three Tips to Activate Self-Love

  1. Show yourself unconditional love. Unconditional love is recognizing that we all fall short but not berating ourselves in this area. Dote on your positive attributes and strengths. These are the areas to focus on and build up.
  2. Treat yourself. Stop putting off the things you want to do and see in the hopes of finding someone to do these things with you. Date yourself and plan sporadic play dates for a party of one (hint: check out Meetup if you need to interact with others).
  3. Find your happy. Use this time to discover what makes YOU happy. Do more of these things.

It is time to focus on loving yourself first. Prepare yourself to be amazed at how you will attract what you nurture.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” ~ Buddha

Dream It. Believe It. Achieve It.

Dream It. Believe It. Achieve It.

Happy New Year! The time for self-reflecting on the previous year and planning for the year ahead. Plan to set goals, plan to take action, and plan to check off tasks for realizing dreams. Everything begins with a thought (dream) and what one does or does not do (belief) is the catalyst for actively pursuing the desires of life (achieve).

Anyone is capable of accomplishing great things in their life. What separates those who accomplish their dreams and the ones that do not is the conquering versus succumbing to fear. Here are some rules to properly guide the journey ahead.

1. Suspend disbelief. This is a phrase often used in the artistic realm such as writing where the author convinces the reader that an imagined world exists. Know that even in the midst of struggle or learning curves that the realization of the dream will happen, even in those moments when it may feel or look impossible.
2. No comparisons. One will encounter problems when they begin to compare their journey to another individual’s journey. It is problematic in that you don’t know the full account of their story. This also shifts the focus from pursuing and working on your own goals and enjoying your own road ahead.
3. Do not reject the inkling. A dream will gently nudge at each of us and it will not be ignored. Rejection will only lead to regret. There is NOTHING to lose in the pursuit of a dream.

How to Create the Vision of Your Dreams: Vision Board

A vision board is a good source for activating your dreams. It is a visual organization tool for the things you would like to see happen or achieve in your life. It is powerful resource in which your dreams will begin to take flight. Here are some tips to help you get started.

–  What You Need: Poster Board | Magazines | Scissors | Glue
–  You can append pictures, affirmations, and key words to your board.
–  Have fun. Make it a reflection of you. As much as possible fill up every space.
–  Add Pizzazz: You can add embellishments to add the WOW factor to your board.
–  Make It a Party: Invite friends over and work on your individual boards while mixing it up with good company and sharing your goals. This will provide a support team that will cheer you on in the pursuit of your dreams and hold you accountable and vice versa.
